Gratitude, Chiropractic And A Positive Mental Attitude

Many approaches to health often forget about the “Thinking Well” factor, however a positive outlook on life is one of the three cornerstones of optimal health.

Though scientists are divided on how optimism promotes good health, many suspect it has to do with the effect it has on our immune function. Psychoneuroimmunology is a new area of research that has emerged to study the effects of thoughts and emotions on immunity, and the findings are very compelling. From laughter to tears or friendship to romantic love, our emotions and attitudes all have a bearing on our health.  When we’re happy, we smile, and when we’re confident, we stand taller and look people in the eye.  Smiling on the outside sends a message to the brain, which makes it “assume” we are happy. Walking tall and meeting people’s glance will likewise “tell” the brain that we feel confident and upbeat. The positive feedback we get in response from others reinforces these feelings of optimism.

Gratitude – is one of the simplest and most profound ways to enhance our emotional and physical well-being. It seems so much easier to complain about what is wrong with our lives, rather than focus on what is right.  By focusing on what we do have, rather than what we don’t have, it helps us to think more positive, powerful thoughts.  Gratitude allows us to realize that whatever we are setting out to accomplish we are all ready blessed.   Gratitude also provides a sense of peace and escape.   Gratitude makes us aware of all the green grass we already have on our side of the fence. Gratitude and optimism are skills that can be learned, just like learning to catch a ball, or ride a bike.  It boils down to practice, practice, practice!   If we focus on thinking wonderful, positive, healthy, happy thoughts we can’t help but cultivate an attitude of hopefulness and gratitude.
